January 23, 2009

This is Jeff Wareham, ScotiaMcLeod Wealth Advisor, with some thoughts
for investors outgrowing their mutual funds.

So far, it has been another difficult week for global markets. The
short term remains tough, but where are things going in the longer
term? Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of Canada, stirred things up
a bit with his commentary on the current recession, and the likely
recovery of the Canadian economy. Carney's comments mirrored the
thoughts of Scotia Economics, who released a detailed outlook this
week, Among the topics covered were commodities, exports, jobs,
housing, and our currency. Although a lot has been said about these
different subjects, I feel there were some key points in the report
which have not been a part of the conversation. Tune in tomorrow at
8:30, as I dig deeper into the economic outlook for 2009 and 2010.
